PRESS RELEASE
April 2, 2008, Palmyra
VA. The Fluvanna Republican Committee elected Douglas R. Johnson as
Chairman this evening. Doug said “I intend to pull people in
rather than push people out” in his two minute speech as an attempt to
unite the various wings of the party.
Party unity was also stressed by representatives of the candidates for
the state wide elections and our federal elections. The Fluvanna
Republicans are united in their support for the re-election of Virgil
Goode as our Fifth District Congressman and the election of John McCain
as President.
Mr. Johnson will be heading up the delegations to both the State
Republican Convention in May along with the 5th District Convention
later this month.
In Mr. Johnson’s first official act, he called the next meeting to be
Thursday, April 10, 2008 at the old Courthouse. Details will be
posted on the official website: http://fluvannarepublican.org/
Mr. Johnson has also re-instated Luther White as Precinct Captain of
the Rivanna District. A full slate of officers will be presented
at the April 10th meeting.
Mr. Johnson thanked the contingency from The Fluvanna Rotary Club for
coming out in his support. Doug is a Charter Member of the group
that meets on Wednesday mornings at the Lake Monticello Club House.
He also thanks his Weight Watcher friends who also came in
support. Doug has recently lost over 75 pounds through the Weight
Watcher group that meets at the Lake Monticello Fire House on Monday
mornings.
Doug also is on the Steering Committee of the newly formed Fluvanna
Taxpayers Association and received support from individuals who
appreciated him speaking to the Board of Supervisors and the School
Board multiple times.
Special thanks is also given to the past members of the Fluvanna
Republican Committee who came together to complete the coalition.
While some did not support Doug, he hopes they will join with him to
help the party be stronger through this process. He says “I am
committed to healing. I offer my hand in friendship. I will
work with whoever is willing.”
