MINUTES OF THE FLUVANNA REPUBLICAN COMMITTEE, INC.

JANUARY 15,2005

The meeting of the Fluvanna Republican Committee was held at the Fork Union Community Center on January 15, 2005. Chairman Feda Kidd-Morton appointed Don Morton as temporary recording secretary.

The meeting was called to order at 8:00a.m. by Chairman Feda Kidd-Morton. The Pledge of Allegiance and the Virginia Republican Creed were recited. Don Morton offered a prayer of blessing. A breakfast prepared by Glen Gustafson, Will Blackford, Don Morton, assisted by Emil and Esther Kilianski was enjoyed by all.

Vice-chair Jason Hull introduced the guest speaker State Senator and candidate for Lieutenant Governor Bill Bolling. Senator Bolling thanked Fluvanna Republicans for their outstanding effort in promoting voter turnout in the November elections and for the resounding Republican victory. Senator Bolling gave an update on the 2005 General Assembly session just under way in Richmond. The Senator stated his values and vision for the Commonwealth as they applied to his bid to be elected Lieutenant Governor.
Many of the statements were warmly applauded by the fifty plus Republicans present.

The reading of the minutes of the last meeting was suspended by a voice vote.

Treasurer Bob Meyers gave a treasurers report that stated the balance as of December 31, 2004 was $4,201.33. Bob also presented the proposed budget for 2005 and after a brief discussion a motion was made to adopt the budget by Bob Schwarz and seconded by Kevin Willis. The budget was adopted by a voice vote.

Old Business

Emil Kilianski reported on the Committee’s successful participation at Old Farm Days.

Bob Meyer reported on the successful BBQ and Chairman Kidd-Morton followed up his statement with praise for the efforts of the Committee, as this BBQ was the most successful ever.

Dr. Emerson Farley reported on the Bill Bolling fund- raiser held at the home of Roger and Karen Bowles that was also quite successful.

Don Morton reported on the “2004 Sign Wars” and thanked all concerned for the outstanding effort.

Luther White reported on the success of the “Ones” campaign to get Fluvanna Republicans to have their names published as supporters of George W. Bush and Virgil Goode during the 2004 election campaign.

Jason Hull reported on the great Republican victory in 2004 and listed the significant improvements in voters supporting the Republican candidates. Significant increases in Republican votes were tallied in all Fluvanna precincts.

New Business

Precinct captains Patricia and Luther White, Doug Johnson, Glen Gustafson, Will Blackford and Bob Meyer each reported on election day efforts in their precincts and recognized and thanked all the workers.

Kirt Doersch gave a brief review of the by-laws regarding candidate qualifications for Committee nominations. Questions about the process were asked by Dr. Emerson Farley. Chairman Kidd-Morton stated the process necessary to amend the by-laws and that she was open to suggestions for change that the Committee might approve..

Chairman Kidd-Morton led a brief discussion on the plans to assist Jerry Kilgore in his bid for Governor and it was agreed that the Committee would host a fundraiser probably in June.

Chairman Kidd-Morton announced that local elections for school board and the board of supervisors would be held in Fluvanna in November as well as the statewide elections for Governor, Lieutenant Governor and Attorney General. A mass meeting date will be set to nominate Republican candidates as soon as the Republican Party of Virginia sets the window for these meetings.

Chairman Kidd-Morton listed the Committee goals for 2005:
1. Maintain current membership level
2. Recruit candidate for the Columbia District Board of Supervisors election
3. Fundraiser for Jerry Kilgore
4. Return Republican Team to top positions in Richmond
5. Raise at least $3,000 at fall BBQ

The next Committee meeting will be held on Feb. 28. Time and place will be announced.

Representatives from the Steve Baril for Lieutenant Governor, Joe May for Lieutenant Governor and Bob McDonald for Attorney General addressed the Committee on behalf of these candidates.

The meeting was adjourned at 10:45 a.m.
